Alice Cling Large Navajo Pinon Pitch Navajo Pottery

Daughter of a well-known traditional Native American potter, Alice Cling is in the vanguard of contemporary Navajo ceramists, credited with being the first to polish her ware with a smooth well-worn river stone instead of the traditional corn cob. Hallmarks of her work are its sleek, stylized shapes with minimal decoration and a unique, highly polished surface. Each pot is mad by hand, never on a wheel, of local red clay whose source is a well-kept secret. Coated with pinon pitch and dried on a wood-burning stove in her living room, each is signed by the artist, whose award-winning work is increasingly collectible.

The present piece is very large measuring 10.5 inches tall by 8.5 inches wide.
