Shawna Garcia-Rustin Acoma Eggshell Pottery
Shawna Garcia-Rustin Acoma Pueblo, Red Corn Clan, Great-granddaughter of Sime and Santana Sanchez; granddaughter of Tony and Lucy Garcia; daughter of Beatrice and Elliott Garcia, Sr.; sister of Lynette, Janet, Elliot, Jr. and Terrance Garcia. Shawna Garcia learned pottery making from her mother and father in Acomita.
Patrick Rustin, her husband, who is Apache from the San Carlos Reservation, has been making pottery since 1991. He has mastered the technique of making the thinnest walls possible.
Pat and Shawna placed fourth in the 1997 New Mexico State Fair, placed third in 1998 and also got Best of Show that year. The most recent award was also in the New Mexico State Fair in 2000: a first place ribbon, Best of Show award and a plaque for The Best Pottery. Their pottery is destined for the finest pottery collections.
