INDIVIDUAL SANTA CLARA POTTERY
-
Anna Archuletta Avanyu Meander Santa Clara Pottery
Anna Archuleta is the daughter of Jose Ernest Tapia & Belen Tapia and was taught to make pottery by her famous mother. She has been active in producing deeply and precisely carved pottery at Santa Clara Pueblo since 1975 specializing in carved red-ware and black-ware, polychrome red-ware bowls, jars, and red-ware melon bowls.
The present offering is a fine example of Anna's work. It measures 6 inches tall by 5 1/2 inches wide, and is decorated with a sharply and precisely carved Avanyu carved into a deeply rich red Santa Clara pottery surface. A meander-like symbol circles the top.
