Carol Lucero Gachupin Standing Jemez Storyteller Pottery

Carol Lucero Gachupin was born November 19, 1958 in Jemez Pueblo, the daughter of Margarita Lucero. Her teacher in the art of working the clay was the Marie Romero, who also was her inspiration to become a potter.

Carol specializes in forms with Hopi, Pueblo or Navajo style of hair and dress. She is known for the details of her pottery figures and delicacy of her painting. The children listening to the storyteller usually display an intelligent expression and are also busy holding and displaying various items, such as pottery, books, baskets, etc.

The present offering is a large, standing storyteller measuring a full 9 1/4 inches tall. She is singing to four happy children while holding a piece of pottery.

    Carol Lucero-Gachupin is from Jemez Pueblo and the Lucero family of potters which includes Margarita Lucero (mother), Mary R. Lucero, Mary I. Lucero, Virginia and Diane Lucero, and Marie Romero. Marie was her teacher and gave Carol her sound foundation in the creating of traditional Jemez pottery. At right, top, is something different and wonderful from Carol.
