Stella Chavarria Avanyu Santa Clara Pottery
Stella Chavarria was born in 1939 the daughter of famed Santa Clara potter Teresita Naranjo. Her work is concentrated on decorations depicting the Avanyu (serpent protector of Pueblo People), feathers and swirls. The quality of her work has been distinguished by a number of awards in prestigious pottery exhibitions such as the Santa Fe Indian Market.
The present piece has an Avanyu running around the pot with feather designs descending from the top. It measures 6 1/4 inches in height and 4 1/4 inches in diameter and is in mint condition with no defects of any kind. It is, of course, signed by Stella.
