Denise Chavarria Bear Paw Santa Clara Pottery
Denise Chavarria was born in 1959, the daughter of Stella Chavarria, who is the daughter of Teresita Naranjo, a famous Santa Clara potter. Denise's work is concentrated on carved black-ware bowls and is known for her precision and polish. It is mostly decorated by the symbol of Avanyu (the serpent protector of Pueblo people.) The quality of her work has been distinguished by a number of awards in prestigious pottery exhibitions such as the Santa Fe Indian Market.
This present black piece is carved with two bear paws on opposite sides of the pot. The pottery is is extremely well polished and measures 4 1/4 inches in height and 3 3/4 inches in diameter It is in mint condition with no defects of any kind and is signed by Denise.
